“We help children with developmental challenges move, learn, and feel better to become more confident, independent and live their best lives!”
At Kid PT, our pediatric physical therapists and pediatric occupational therapists support autistic children and teens throughout their lives. Our approach is to respect neurodiversity while supporting the needs of autistic children and teens from a sensory and motor perspective. Our pediatric physical therapists work with autistic children and teens first seeking CONNECTIONS, building relationships with children, and then building from there. At Kid PT, we support autistic children and teens with many areas of development, including sensory regulation, fine motor skills, gross motor skills, coordination and play. We have learned from autistic adults, in addition to research and clinical experience, that autistic people often have a hard time taking their intentions and connecting it to their actions. That can make starting, stopping, or even pointing to the right picture difficult. This can lead to a lot of assumptions that the child is not listening to a direction intentionally or is making a choice and then getting upset. As supporting adults we need to look beyond the superficial layers and dig deeper when we see a child struggle. As seen in the house below, which is from Dr. Joni’s Amazon Best Selling Book, the sensory and motor systems provide the foundation for children to develop in all other areas from communication to social interaction to academics. Some signs that your child could benefit from working with our therapists:
